Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has dismissed former U.S. President Donald Trump’s claim that his approval rating has plummeted to four percent, attributing the statement to Russian disinformation.
“Unfortunately, President Trump, who we have great respect for as leader of the American people … lives in this disinformation space,” Zelensky said during a press conference in Kyiv on Wednesday, accusing Moscow of misleading Trump.
Trump’s remarks came as he called for presidential elections in Ukraine—currently suspended under martial law—stating, “He’s down at four percent approval rating.”
However, a recent poll by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology contradicts this claim, revealing that 57% of respondents trust Zelensky, while 37% do not, and the rest remain undecided.
Trump’s comments followed a meeting between U.S. and Russian foreign ministers in Saudi Arabia—their first since Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine—where discussions centered on resetting relations and potential pathways to ending the conflict.
Kyiv and its European allies have expressed concerns over being excluded from negotiations with Russia regarding the war’s resolution.
