The head of Ukraine’s military intelligence, Kyrylo Budanov, has suggested that a ceasefire in the ongoing war with Russia could happen before the end of the year.
“I think it is going to happen. There are most of the components for it to happen,” Budanov said during an interview with journalists on Thursday.
While he did not provide specific details, Budanov acknowledged uncertainties, adding, “How long it will be, how effective it will be – is another question.”
Despite his optimism, many Ukrainian officials remain skeptical about a ceasefire, warning that any pause in fighting could give Russia time to regroup and prepare for further aggression.
Talks of a potential ceasefire have intensified following Donald Trump’s return to the White House for his second term. Trump, who has vowed to quickly end the conflict, recently held a call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, sparking concerns in Kyiv and across Europe.
