A Ukrainian lawmaker has strongly criticized former U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to pause military aid to Ukraine, calling it a moment of “historic infamy.”
Oleksandr Merezhko, a member of Ukraine’s parliament and an ally of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, expressed shock over the decision, which followed a recent clash between Trump and Zelenskyy.
“It’s unbelievable what is unfolding because I couldn’t imagine in my worst dreams that Trump would cut off military aid to Ukraine when we need it so much,” Merezhko told BBC’s Newsday.
The move marks a dramatic shift in U.S. policy on Ukraine and Russia under Trump’s leadership. Merezhko urged Trump to consider his legacy carefully, emphasizing the gravity of the decision.
“To me, it’s a date that will go down in history infamy,” he stated.
Trump’s decision to freeze military support has sparked concerns amid ongoing tensions between Ukraine and Russia.
