Former U.S. President Donald Trump has applauded the efforts of the Elon Musk-led Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) after it reportedly uncovered hundreds of billions of dollars in government fraud.
In a video shared by Musk on Monday, Trump hailed a recent directive requiring all government employees to disclose their weekly tasks, calling it a crucial step toward accountability.
“We have people who don’t show up to work, and nobody even knows if they actually work for the government,” Trump said. “By asking, ‘Tell us what you did this week,’ what he is really saying is, are you actually working?”
The directive, spearheaded by Musk, warns that employees who fail to respond to the email will be considered as having resigned.
Trump emphasized the scale of inefficiency uncovered so far, claiming, “We have already uncovered hundreds of billions of dollars in fraud – and we’ve only just started.”
He also criticized previous administrations, stating, “That’s how badly various parts of our government were run, especially by this last group.”
The revelations have sparked debates on government transparency and accountability, with DOGE’s initiative drawing both praise and criticism.
