Washington, D.C. — U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Monday that his administration would delay the implementation of tariffs on Canada for 30 days, following an agreement between the two nations to strengthen border security measures aimed at curbing the flow of fentanyl.
In a statement on his Truth Social platform, Trump expressed satisfaction with Canada’s commitment to tightening controls at the U.S.-Canada border.
“Canada has agreed to ensure we have a secure Northern Border and to finally end the deadly scourge of drugs like fentanyl,” Trump said.
The announcement came after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau issued a similar statement, highlighting bilateral efforts to address the opioid crisis. The agreement marks a key development in ongoing trade and security discussions between the two countries.
