Trump Criticizes OPEC Over High Oil Prices, Links Issue to Ukraine-Russia Conflict

0

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed concerns over the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), accusing the alliance of keeping oil prices excessively high during the ongoing Ukraine-Russia war.

Speaking during a visit to Western North Carolina on Friday, Trump criticized OPEC for what he described as profiteering at a time of global instability. He claimed the group had maintained elevated oil prices for nearly three years, exacerbating the economic impact of the war.

“One way to stop it quickly is for OPEC to stop making so much money,” Trump told reporters. “If they lower the price of oil, the war will end more easily. But with prices staying high, the conflict drags on.”

Trump has been vocal about OPEC’s policies since his first days in office, often pressuring the oil-exporting alliance to lower crude prices. His latest remarks suggest he views OPEC’s pricing strategy as a contributing factor to the prolonged war between Ukraine and Russia.

The former president’s comments come amid broader discussions about global energy markets and their influence on geopolitical conflicts. However, OPEC has consistently defended its pricing strategies, citing market stabilization and production costs as key considerations.
