Trump and Xi Hold Talks Amid TikTok Ban Controversy and Global Trade Tensions

0

In a significant diplomatic move, U.S. President-elect Donald Trump announced a productive conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday. The discussion covered critical topics, including trade imbalances, the fentanyl crisis, and the ongoing controversy surrounding TikTok.

The call comes on the heels of a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that permits a contentious ban on TikTok to take effect as early as this weekend. The court dismissed an appeal from TikTok’s owners, who argued that the ban infringed on their First Amendment rights.

Trump, in a statement shared on Truth Social, expressed optimism about the dialogue, emphasizing a shared commitment to global stability and safety.

“I just spoke to Chairman Xi Jinping of China. The call was a very good one for both China and the U.S.A. It is my expectation that we will solve many problems together, and starting immediately. We discussed balancing Trade, Fentanyl, TikTok, and many other subjects. President Xi and I will do everything possible to make the World more peaceful and safe!”

The conversation signals potential collaboration on pressing global issues and raises questions about the future of U.S.-China relations as Trump prepares to assume office.
