At a press conference in Mar-a-Lago, former U.S. President Donald Trump condemned what he called large-scale fraud and wasteful spending in foreign aid programs, claiming previous administrations funneled billions of taxpayer dollars into questionable projects across Africa, Asia, and Europe.
Trump, who signed three new executive orders aimed at increasing transparency and accountability in government spending, cited findings from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by Elon Musk. He claimed the agency uncovered shocking misuse of funds, including payments for obscure environmental studies, election-related initiatives abroad, and social behavior programs in multiple countries.
Describing the situation as “incredible,” Trump also alleged widespread irregularities in Social Security payments, stating that millions of people over the age of 100—some as old as 360—were still receiving benefits. He criticized the mismanagement of taxpayer dollars, questioning why such large sums were allocated to foreign projects while domestic issues remained unaddressed.
While the White House recently stated Musk has no official decision-making role, Trump praised him as “a patriot” for exposing what he called unprecedented levels of waste. He vowed to continue investigating and holding those responsible accountable, declaring, “We’re talking about hundreds of billions of dollars. We have a very corrupt country, but we’re figuring it out.”
