TikTok Restored in the U.S. After Trump Pledges Support

0

TikTok has resumed operations in the United States following an announcement by President-elect Donald Trump, who vowed to restore the app’s access upon his return to power. The popular video-sharing platform had ceased functioning late Saturday night, disappearing from Apple and Google app stores as a new law mandating its shutdown took effect on Sunday.

In an interview with NBC, Trump stated that he might grant TikTok an additional 90 days to finalize a deal ensuring its continued operations in the U.S., thereby averting a nationwide ban.

By Sunday evening, some U.S. users reported partial restoration of the app, with TikTok’s website becoming accessible and the app gradually resuming functionality. However, full services remained limited in some areas.

TikTok released a statement acknowledging the developments, stating:
“In agreement with our service providers, TikTok is in the process of restoring service.”

The company also thanked Trump for his intervention, noting that his assurances provided clarity and protection for service providers. TikTok emphasized its commitment to supporting over 170 million American users and empowering more than 7 million small businesses that rely on the platform.

This latest move underscores TikTok’s ongoing efforts to secure its presence in the U.S. market amidst regulatory challenges.
