Russia has welcomed the suspension of U.S. military aid to Ukraine, calling it the most significant step toward ending the ongoing war.
The pause, which took effect immediately on Monday, halts the delivery of hundreds of millions of dollars in weaponry, The New York Times reported. The move follows a public dispute between former U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov described the decision as a potential turning point.
“If the United States stops military supplies, this would probably be the best contribution to peace,” Peskov said, emphasizing that such a step could push Kyiv toward negotiations.
He further noted that Russia would closely monitor developments, highlighting Washington’s role as Ukraine’s primary military backer since Moscow launched its offensive in February 2023.
