Pope Francis has condemned former U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposed plans to deport illegal migrants, describing them as a “disgrace” if carried out.
In an interview with Italian television, the Pontiff, speaking from his Vatican residence, expressed concern over the potential impact of the plan on vulnerable individuals. He stated that such actions would unfairly burden “poor wretches who have nothing.”
The Pope emphasized that deportation was not a suitable solution to migration issues, asserting, “That’s not right. That’s not how you solve problems.”
Pope Francis also conveyed a message to Trump, offering “cordial greetings” while urging the former president to lead with values of inclusivity. He called on Trump to foster a society free from hatred, discrimination, and exclusion, and to prioritize “peace and reconciliation among peoples.”
