Elon Musk’s newly established Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has announced that it has saved American taxpayers $55 billion in under a month through a series of cost-cutting measures.
According to an official statement on DOGE’s website, the savings come from canceling or renegotiating leases and contracts, selling government assets, cutting grants, eliminating waste, and reducing the federal workforce.
“Let’s balance the budget! DOGE’s total estimated savings are $55 billion,” the agency stated, noting that updates on these savings will be published biweekly, with a goal of achieving real-time tracking.
The announcement comes amid legal challenges, as a federal judge in Washington, D.C., heard arguments on whether to temporarily block Musk and DOGE from accessing federal data systems.
Musk’s initiative has received strong backing from former President Donald Trump and Republican lawmakers, who have tasked DOGE with uncovering hundreds of billions in government fraud and inefficiencies.
