Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has criticized former U.S. President Donald Trump, stating that he was elected to govern the United States, not to dictate global affairs.
“I respect the election of President Trump, who was chosen by the American people to govern the United States,” Lula said. “But he was not elected to rule the world.”
Lula’s remarks come in response to Trump’s recent statement about relocating Palestinians from Gaza and asserting U.S. ownership of the territory for redevelopment. The Brazilian leader emphasized that the U.S. must maintain “democratic and civilized” relations with the rest of the world, rather than acting as a global enforcer.
He also criticized the U.S. for positioning itself as “a symbol of democracy and the world’s sheriff,” calling Trump’s comments on territorial occupations “provocations.”
The remarks underscore growing international pushback against Trump’s foreign policy rhetoric and raise questions about U.S. influence in global affairs.
