Building Collapse in Cairo Leaves 10 Dead, Several Missing

0

A building collapse in Cairo’s working-class Kerdasa neighborhood on Monday resulted in the deaths of 10 people and injuries to eight others, with several more feared trapped under the rubble, according to state media.

Emergency responders, including ambulances and civil defense teams, were immediately dispatched to the scene. Search operations continued as rescue teams worked to locate individuals believed to be missing beneath the debris.

Eyewitnesses reported to state-owned Al-Akhbar Al-Youm that a gas cylinder explosion was the likely cause of the collapse, and a police investigation is currently underway to confirm the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Cairo, a sprawling metropolis with a population exceeding 26 million, has experienced a series of deadly building collapses in recent years. These incidents have often been attributed to the deteriorating condition of some buildings and non-compliance with building regulations, which are unevenly enforced in the city.
