The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has received high praise from the leadership and members of the National Assembly for what they described as his “exceptional performance” since assuming office.

The commendations came during Wike’s presentation and defence of the N1.78 trillion FCT Statutory Budget Proposal for the 2025 fiscal year before the National Assembly.

Senator Abdul Ningi, representing Bauchi Central, lauded the remarkable infrastructural improvements across the capital city, likening the current state of Abuja to that of Johannesburg and Cairo. He urged the Minister to match the physical transformation with improved security measures to further enhance the territory’s appeal.

Chairman of the Senate Committee on FCT, Senator Ibrahim Bomai, also praised Wike’s performance, describing his achievements within two years as “wonderful.” Bomai noted that the 2025 budget proposal is not only ambitious but also one of the most impressive ever presented by the FCT administration.

“This is the first time the FCT is proposing to generate about N1.7 trillion,” Bomai stated. “The N608 billion projected Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) for 2025 also reflects a significant leap in revenue capacity.”

Since taking office, Minister Wike has initiated and executed numerous facelift projects across the FCT, including the construction of roads and bridges, dramatically reshaping the city’s infrastructure. More projects are said to be underway, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to urban renewal and sustainable development.
