The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has issued a stern warning to squatters obstructing the construction of the Arterial Road N20 in Abuja, declaring that the government will not tolerate any sabotage.
Addressing residents of the Gishiri community on Tuesday, Wike reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to completing the road project by May. He emphasized that compensation had been approved for affected residents and a relocation plan was in place.
Despite these provisions, the minister expressed disappointment that some individuals in the community were still blocking contractors from proceeding with the project.
“We have engaged with the community leaders multiple times and assured them of compensation and relocation. However, despite these assurances, work has not progressed as expected,” Wike stated.
He stressed that no government would allow its projects to be sabotaged, especially when they are in the public interest.
“I personally came here to oversee the demolition and to make it clear that it is no longer business as usual,” he added.
The minister reiterated that the administration had given affected residents ample time—over two to three months—to vacate. He dismissed claims that the government’s approach lacked a human face, emphasizing that all necessary measures had been taken to ensure fairness.
“We cannot allow a few individuals to hinder development. Enough is enough,” he declared.
The FCT administration remains firm in its resolve to complete the road project on schedule, ensuring improved infrastructure for Abuja residents.
