The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has shared details of a recent meeting with the embattled and suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara.
Speaking at a media parley in Abuja on Monday, Wike disclosed that Fubara visited him in the company of two governors from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), seeking a resolution to the ongoing political crisis in the state.
While Wike declined to reveal the full details of the closed-door meeting, he stated that he openly questioned Fubara’s sincerity and capacity to broker peace.
“I told him, ‘I don’t think you really have the capacity to make this peace,’” Wike said.
The FCT Minister criticized Fubara for calling for peace while allegedly allowing his allies to continue making inflammatory statements in the media. He argued that true reconciliation required more than symbolic gestures, urging the governor to engage other key stakeholders.
“He must meet with the State Assembly, the party, and other critical actors if he truly wants peace to reign,” Wike added.
The political rift between Wike and Fubara has continued to generate national attention, with efforts to restore normalcy in the state yielding limited progress.
