A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has called on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to formally join the APC if he considers himself a political asset. This comes in response to Wike’s recent media outburst against former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.
In a strongly worded statement issued from Port Harcourt, Eze accused Wike of political inconsistency, betrayal, and opportunism, following the FCT Minister’s criticism of Amaechi’s remark that he was “hungry” under President Bola Tinubu’s administration — a comment made during Amaechi’s 60th birthday.
“If Wike truly thinks he’s an asset, he should stop pretending and officially join the APC,” Eze said. “He’s playing both sides — one leg in the PDP, another in the APC — and yet wants to be called a loyalist. That’s not politics, that’s hypocrisy.”
Eze went further to question President Tinubu’s democratic values, stating that the president should have rejected the controversial results from Rivers State in the 2023 presidential election, which Wike took credit for delivering to the APC.
He accused Wike of “selling his conscience” and labelled him a “reservoir of blackmail, greed, envy, and ingratitude.”
“You destroyed the very party that made you, and now you’re dancing to the tune of the APC,” Eze continued. “But the truth is, within the APC, political heavyweights like Akpabio, Uzodimma, Umahi, and Oshiomhole are waiting to deflate that ego.”
Describing Amaechi as “refined, focused, and principled,” Eze said the former governor had no time for Wike’s “habitual arrogance and treachery.” He also alleged that Wike’s actions during the 2023 elections, including claims of electoral manipulation in Rivers, reflected a decline in political ethics and national morality.
“Wike might not be hungry because of the public funds he’s allegedly accessed, but Nigerians are suffering — and his support for Tinubu’s administration has contributed to the widespread hunger,” Eze said.
Despite his criticism, Eze thanked Wike for highlighting Amaechi’s impressive political track record over the last 23 years, describing it as a testimony of purposeful leadership and national contribution.
He also commended Olabamji Enitan Jowosimi, Special Assistant to President Tinubu on New Media, and Lere Olayinka, Special Assistant to the FCT Minister on Public Communications, for “unintentionally” affirming President Tinubu’s incapacity by attacking Amaechi without addressing the real concerns raised.
“Rather than defend the president with facts, these young aides resorted to insults,” Eze noted. “But no matter what they say, history will remember Amaechi as one of the founding pillars of the APC and a man who stood for progressive ideals.”
The political rift between Amaechi and Wike — both former governors of Rivers State — continues to shape the evolving power dynamics within the APC and the broader Nigerian political space.
