Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed growing speculations about his potential interest in the 2027 presidential race, firmly stating that he will not run against President Bola Tinubu.

Wike, who recently stirred political conversations by advocating for the zoning of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential ticket to the South, clarified his position in an interview with BBC News Pidgin over the weekend.

“I will not contest. Why will I contest against someone I’m working for?” Wike said, expressing unwavering support for President Tinubu and describing any opposition move as futile.

“I will not contest again. I cannot contest against someone I am working with. Who will win except him?”

Addressing PDP’s internal debate on zoning, Wike said, “They said they would zone it to the South, let them zone first. When we get to the bridge, we will know how to cross it.”

He also responded to the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State, denying any feud with Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who he described as his “son.”

“That one is not a battle. He (Fubara) is my boy, he is my son. Why will I fight with him? I’m only fighting against people who want to steal what they did not work for,” Wike stated.

He accused unnamed individuals of manipulating the governor for their selfish agenda, saying, “Now, they are ashamed because they are being defeated. They are the ones pushing Fubara.”

Wike’s comments appear to affirm both his continued alignment with President Tinubu’s administration and his influential role in the unfolding political dynamics within the PDP and Rivers State.
