Wike is NEC member, PDP Disciplinary Committee has no power to punish him – Bode George

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, has said that the Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike cannot be punished by the party because he is a member of its National Executive Committee (NEC).

Recall that the PDP inaugurated a 26-member disciplinary committee to look into the case of alleged anti-party activities by the former Rivers State governor and some of his allies during the 2023 presidential election.

However, George, who is a member of the committee insisted that the process must be open, accountable and that the NEC must be actively involved.

During a recent interview, the PDP chieftain condemned attempts to hide mistakes within the party, stating that it doesn’t align with the principles of transparency and accountability that are essential for effective governance and trust within PDP.

Furthermore, George stressed the importance of the party addressing mistakes openly and handling disciplinary matters transparently, rather than attempting to hide or gloss over issues.

His words, “There is a problem. No rushing. I’m not telling them whether they invite A, B or C — that’s not my business. Whatever they need, they should call a meeting of the National Executive Committee of the party because he (Wike) is still a member of the NEC, and you cannot discipline a member of the NEC just off the records.

“No, let’s do it transparently so everybody will see it. I like what the publicity secretary said that nobody is bigger than the party. And it is not the private enterprise of any individual. No, there are mistakes that have been made. We are now trying to cover it, and what we did was not acceptable to me.”
