The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, have declared that the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is on the verge of collapse, citing internal crises and poor leadership.
Ganduje, in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Edwin Olofu, dismissed recent comments by former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, who predicted a collapse of the APC. According to Ganduje, it is the PDP that faces extinction.
“The PDP is dead. Under President Bola Tinubu, the APC continues to attract high-profile defections. With this momentum, a sweeping victory in 2027 is inevitable,” Ganduje declared.
Echoing this view, FCT Minister and former PDP chieftain, Nyesom Wike, accused the PDP of arrogance, exclusionary politics, and leadership failure. Wike, speaking in Abuja, warned that the party was repeating the same mistakes that led to its defeat in the 2023 general elections.
“You haven’t even won an election, and you’re already excluding people. Selfishness is killing the PDP,” Wike said.
“I’ve warned them. This political smartness without sincerity will cost them dearly.”
He also questioned why PDP stalwarts condemned his alignment with President Tinubu, but remained silent over the BoT Chairman Senator Adolphus Wabara openly supporting Labour Party’s Governor Alex Otti for re-election.
Wike revealed that during a recent visit by suspended Rivers Governor Siminalayi Fubara, he expressed doubt in the governor’s capacity to make peace, hinting at lingering tensions in Rivers State politics.
“PDP Will Rise Again in 2027” – Wabara Fires Back
In a strong rebuttal, PDP BoT Chairman Senator Adolphus Wabara dismissed Wike and Ganduje’s claims, affirming that the PDP remains resilient and united.
Speaking during the inauguration of new BoT members at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja, Wabara said:
“This is a reaffirmation of our commitment to PDP values. The PDP has risen, and we shall triumph in 2027.”
Wabara praised the quality of party loyalists and promised that the PDP’s BoT would remain a stabilizing force as the party charts its path back to power.
“As long as the BoT is vibrant, the PDP is alive. We are not in disarray. We are focused, and we shall rise again,” he said.
