Wike Fires Back: ‘I Have No Crisis with Fubara, He Was Used Against Me

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has denied having any personal feud with Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, while expressing opposition to the declaration of a state of emergency in the state.

Addressing journalists in Abuja on Monday, Wike stated that he had no hand in the crisis rocking Rivers politics and dismissed speculations linking him to the state of emergency declared by President Bola Tinubu.

“I don’t have any crisis with him (Fubara),” Wike said. “I’m not the President who declared a state of emergency. If Mr. President had called me, I wouldn’t have agreed to it. I’ve never supported it.”

Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, accused Fubara of allowing himself to be used by those who have unresolved issues with him.

“But what I said was that the declaration of state of emergency was to save the governor because he was almost impeached,” he added.

Describing ongoing issues within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as politically motivated, Wike blamed what he called “undertakers” within the party for fueling unnecessary conflicts.

“This impunity will not stand. What is happening in PDP is driven by people who have no interest in peace. I see no reason why anyone would willingly submit themselves to such a crisis,” he said.

Wike maintained that he remains focused on his duties in the FCT and emphasized that the political drama in Rivers was not of his making, but rather the result of Governor Fubara aligning with his detractors.

“The governor, unknown to me, gave himself to be the tool for those who couldn’t fight me to fight me,” Wike concluded.

The political feud between Wike and Fubara has continued to stir tensions in Rivers State, raising concerns about stability and governance in the oil-rich region.
