Wike, Ex-Governors Meet Tinubu Behind Closed Doors at Aso Rock

In what appears to be a significant step toward political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Saturday led three former governors to a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The delegation included Wike’s close allies and former members of the defunct G5 group — Ayodele Fayose (Ekiti), Samuel Ortom (Benue), and Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia) — all former governors under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Although the agenda of the meeting was not made public, sources suggest it may signal renewed political maneuvering as the race toward the next election cycle quietly begins.

The G5 group, led by Wike during the 2023 election season, had openly opposed the PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, citing the need for the party’s ticket to be zoned to the South. The group’s internal rebellion played a key role in weakening PDP’s chances at the polls.

Following the election, President Tinubu, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), appointed Wike as FCT Minister, further fueling speculations of an alliance between the former PDP power bloc and the APC-led government.

The Saturday meeting adds to growing speculation about the shape of political alliances in the lead-up to 2027.
