Wike Enforces Deadline for FCT Land Fee Payments

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has firmly stated that the grace period for land allottees to pay their Certificate of Occupancy fees will not be extended. The minister emphasized the necessity for individuals to fulfill their financial obligations, warning that lands with unpaid fees after the deadline will be reallocated to other interested parties.

Wike made this declaration during a routine inspection of several key infrastructure projects underway in the Federal Capital Territory.

The projects inspected include the 15-kilometer left-hand service carriageway of the Outer Southern Expressway from Ring Road 1 to Wasa Junction, the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal complex in Dakibiyu, Jabi District, and the 5-kilometer Saburi Road project.

Addressing journalists after the inspection, Wike responded to concerns raised by some landowners regarding the publication of their names as defaulters. He clarified that the list of plot owners with unpaid fees was generated from official records and that those with proof of payment would have their cases resolved accordingly.

Reiterating the government’s stance, Wike explained that some of the land allocations date back a decade, making it imperative to enforce compliance for the overall development of the Federal Capital Territory.

He stated, “We believe it is essential for individuals to fulfill their obligations. After the grace period expires, these lands will be reallocated to interested parties.”

When questioned about potential distractions that could impact his developmental agenda for the Federal Capital Territory in 2025, Wike dismissed such concerns, asserting his unwavering focus on achieving the administration’s mandate.

“Complaints are an inherent part of governance. It is unrealistic to expect to satisfy everyone,” he said. “These complaints will not deter us from our mission. Our focus remains on achieving the best possible outcomes for the majority of our residents.”

The Minister highlighted the importance of revenue generation through compliance, describing it as vital to funding and sustaining developmental projects in the territory.

Wike’s remarks serve as a clear reminder of the government’s commitment to fostering accountability and driving growth in the Federal Capital Territory.
