The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has pledged that residents of Abuja will continue to experience the tangible benefits of President Bola Tinubu’s administration and the support of the National Assembly through ongoing infrastructural development.

Wike made this known on Thursday during the official commissioning of the Greater Abuja Water Supply Project, a major utility initiative aimed at improving water access across key areas of the capital.

The $470 million project, first awarded in 2017 under the Partnership for African Development Initiative, was co-funded by the Chinese government (85%) and the Nigerian Federal Government in partnership with the FCT Administration (15%). The current scope covers Loops 1, 2, 5, and 6 of the water supply network.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Wike expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for his commitment to completing vital infrastructure in the FCT. He highlighted the President’s directive to prioritize the water supply project and applauded his administration for delivering on that promise.

“We want to sincerely thank you, Mr. President, that under this administration, this job has been completed and today you are commissioning the Greater Abuja Water Supply Network,” Wike said.

He further revealed that procurement is nearing completion for a new agreement with Chinese firm CGC to extend water supply services to satellite towns such as Bwari, Kubwa, and Karu, following the FCT’s signing of a new pact with the company during Tinubu’s state visit to China in 2024.

“Not only are we providing water to the city, but we are also expanding to the satellite communities,” Wike noted. “We believe that by your third year in office, we will be commissioning these additional projects as well.”

Wike also commended the National Assembly for its consistent support and emphasized that the developmental strides of the current administration will remain evident, regardless of political perceptions.

“We will ensure that people in the FCT see and feel what you are doing. For those who choose not to see it—it’s not your fault,” he added.

The commissioning marks another milestone in the Tinubu administration’s infrastructural agenda and reaffirms its commitment to inclusive development across both urban and rural areas within the nation’s capital.
