Wike Calls for Swift Rehabilitation of Apo-Karshi Road Projects

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed his commitment to fast-tracking the rehabilitation of key roadways connecting Nyanya, Karu, and Orozo, stressing the urgency of addressing the poor condition of the roads.

Wike made this declaration during an inspection of the 18-kilometer Apo-Karshi Road project in Abuja. Reflecting on a previous visit, he expressed his disapproval of the road’s state, saying, “When we last visited, I saw how deteriorated the road was and thought, ‘This is unacceptable.’ We immediately wrote to Mr. President, and he approved its rehabilitation.”

The road, once completed, will not only ease transportation but will also feature the installation of streetlights, with the contractor pledging to finish the project within eight months.

Wike emphasized the significance of the road, which services various government agencies along its route. He noted that its rehabilitation would enhance accessibility on the Karshi-Apo Road, which had faced delays due to procurement processes.

“I have my reservations about their timelines, but they assure me the project will be completed by April. This is a top priority, and many are anxious to see it done,” Wike stated, adding that funds were available to support the contractors, provided they demonstrated consistent progress.

“If I return and observe substantial improvements, I will direct the release of additional funds. But until then, we will keep a close watch on their performance,” he assured.

Addressing concerns about potential project cancellation, Wike explained the complexities involved, citing financial and legal ramifications. Instead, he stressed his preference for supporting the contractor to ensure the timely delivery of the project.

“We are serious about this, and I will be returning regularly to monitor the progress. Our commitment to seeing this road fully rehabilitated is unwavering,” Wike concluded.
