Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has finally discussed the Rivers State situation. Wike, who handed over power to his protege and the incumbent, Governor Sim Fubara, spoke to the press on Tuesday.
Following the meeting in Abuja on Tuesday, the governors elected on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) platform heard remarks from the former Rivers helmsman.
He said the issue has been taken over by the main opposition party. He maintained that, contrary to what others had said, it was not an ethnic problem.
On Monday, there were social media accusations implying that the conflict between the Ijaws and the Ikweres, which is taking place in Rivers, has some ethnic overtones.
From Sunday night to Monday morning, the Rivers State House of Assembly attempted to remove Governor Sim Fubara from office.
Earlier in the day, in Abuja, the PDP National Working Committee convened with several governors chosen on the party platform: Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Caleb Muftwang (Plateau), Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), and Ademola Adeleke (Osun).
“In politics, there is a lot of internal wrangling. But you’re not going to say that because there are lots of internal wrangling, they’re not going to settle among themselves,” Wike said.
“I was the instrument. I had every power then to say where things should go. When things are wrong, you ask questions. It’s a party affair.
“Parties know how they resolve their mechanism. It’s not an ethnic affair. Our party is looking into it. That’s what I’ll say. Every politician has his interests,” he said.
