Wike Boasts of Achievements Ahead of FCT Polls: “Our Projects Will Do the Talking”

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that the achievements of his administration will serve as a powerful campaign tool in the upcoming Area Council elections, insisting there will be no need for electoral malpractice.

Wike made the remarks on Tuesday during the commissioning of the newly constructed Idu-Zuba road, a key infrastructure project delivered under President Bola Tinubu’s administration. The event also marked the President’s second year in office and was officially commissioned by Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, who represented President Tinubu.

Addressing political stakeholders and residents, Wike emphasized that his development strides in the FCT—ranging from road infrastructure to bus terminals and schools—are enough to win over the electorate.

“For those contesting the Area Council elections, I don’t know what they will campaign with,” Wike said. “But for those aligned with us, they have tangible achievements to show. So, people shouldn’t waste their money. The result is already clear. The projects are the rigging.”

He added that performance-based governance is the most effective strategy for earning public trust and support.

“When you give the people what they need, there’s nothing left for the opposition to say. We will go out there and point to the roads, schools, and other developments. That’s the message,” he said.

Wike’s comments come amid preparations for the FCT Area Council elections, as political parties and candidates gear up for a heated contest in Nigeria’s capital.
