Why I Left Labour Party for APC — Valentine Ozigbo Speaks on Defection

0

Former governorship aspirant in Anambra State, Valentine Ozigbo, has defended his decision to leave the Labour Party (LP) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), saying he has no regrets about the move.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s The Morning Show on Friday, Ozigbo said his decision was driven by deep concerns over the internal state of the Labour Party and a broader desire to connect Anambra State to the federal government for better governance outcomes.

“I have no regrets whatsoever,” he said in response to whether he felt any remorse about dumping the LP. “I explored all options, I engaged, I prayed, but the dysfunction within the opposition parties left me with no viable path forward.”

Ozigbo, who contested for the APC governorship ticket but lost to Nicholas Ukachukwu, explained that his defection was born out of noble intentions and a strategic calculation to align with a party that could deliver meaningful change.

“I put all the parties on the table and did my introspection. For me, there are only two options today: either be in the mainstream and orchestrate change from within, or remain in a dysfunctional opposition,” he said.

On the recent wave of defections in Delta State’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ozigbo said the motivations vary, but many stem from unresolved internal crises.

“Some defections are driven by genuine concerns, like the lack of fair internal mechanisms to resolve issues. Others may have less noble reasons,” he noted.

He emphasized that his own move to the APC was based on a vision to deliver dividends of democracy to the people of Anambra and work toward a stronger Nigeria.

“I’m here for noble reasons. I prioritize Anambra people. I believe the APC offers a platform to not just win, but to protect mandates, connect the state to the center, and achieve real development,” he added.
