PESHAWAR, PAKISTAN – A man has been charged with murder after allegedly shooting the administrator of a community WhatsApp group who removed him from the chat, police confirmed on Saturday.
The victim, Mushtaq Ahmed, was fatally shot on Thursday evening in Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, a region with a history of sectarian violence.
According to police records, the suspect, identified as Ashfaq, allegedly killed Ahmed after being expelled from the messaging group following an argument.
A statement from the victim’s brother revealed that both men had arranged to meet and reconcile. However, the encounter turned deadly when Ashfaq allegedly arrived armed and opened fire.
Authorities say the availability of firearms, the influence of tribal customs, and weak law enforcement contribute to such violent incidents in the region.
