Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, has declared that there will be no safe haven for criminal elements, particularly kidnappers, in the state. Speaking during an interdenominational church service marking the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day at the Government House Chapel, Owerri, the governor reaffirmed his commitment to using every resource available to bring criminals to justice.
Governor Uzodinma expressed confidence that those involved in criminal activities, including the sponsors of kidnapping for ransom, would be exposed and brought to account. “God will not fail to expose those involved in sponsoring criminal activities in the state,” he declared, emphasizing his administration’s resolve to ensure peace and security in Imo State.
The service, which marked the beginning of the Remembrance Day observances, served as a reminder of the sacrifices made by fallen soldiers. Governor Uzodinma underscored that the peace Nigerians enjoy today is a result of the supreme price paid by those who fought to preserve national unity. He also expressed gratitude to the congregation for joining in prayers for the fallen heroes, stressing the importance of commemorating their courage and sacrifices.
The governor reiterated that his administration is fully supportive of the Armed Forces in their peacekeeping efforts. He assured citizens that the troubling stories of insecurity in Imo State were becoming a thing of the past. In a direct appeal to criminals, he urged those hiding in the bush to surrender, promising that the government is willing to welcome them back if they are ready to lay down their arms.
“Politics will come and go, governors will come and go, but Imo State will remain,” Uzodinma stated, underscoring his commitment to the state’s security and well-being. He also warned against encouraging violence, emphasizing that individuals responsible for killing and maiming innocent citizens will ultimately be held accountable by God.
In his homily, Rev Fr Augustine Agowuike drew parallels between the sacrifices of the Armed Forces and that of Jesus Christ, who gave his life to save humanity. He urged Christians to continue supporting and praying for the Armed Forces and other security agencies, ensuring their sacrifices are not in vain.
The commemoration of Armed Forces Remembrance Day serves as an annual reminder of the importance of peace and the sacrifices made by those who defend the nation.
