A United Airlines flight bound for Las Vegas was forced to make an emergency landing at Newark Liberty International Airport after a possible mechanical issue mid-flight.
The aircraft, carrying 176 passengers and six crew members, departed from Newark and was en route to Harry Reid International Airport when pilots decided to turn back approximately an hour into the journey.
United Airlines confirmed the incident in a statement, assuring that Flight 1544 landed safely and all passengers deplaned normally at the gate. The airline provided an alternative aircraft to continue the trip to Las Vegas.
Officials have not disclosed the exact nature of the mechanical issue. This incident adds to growing concerns over recent air travel disruptions in the U.S.
