The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed that Mr. Ezekiel Adeniran, the Registrar of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo State, was assassinated in Akure, the state capital.
Adeniran, aged 41, was found dead in his residence in the early hours of Thursday. He was appointed registrar of the university in January 2025.
Confirming the tragic incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Olayinka Ayanlade, said the case is being treated as an assassination. “I can confirm to you that the man was killed. This was reported at Fanibi Division,” he stated.
According to Ayanlade, preliminary intelligence suggests that two unidentified men emerged from a nearby bush and allegedly forced a harmful substance into another person’s mouth, possibly in connection to the killing. “Our focus now is to unravel who is behind this act,” he added.
He urged members of the public with useful information to come forward, assuring that such details will be treated with utmost confidentiality.
The management of UNIMED also confirmed the incident in a statement signed by the Head of Media and Protocol, Mr. Isaac Oluyi. “The devastating news has thrown the university into mourning. He was still at his duty post on Monday, July 14, 2025,” the statement read.
As investigations intensify, the university community and the entire state await answers to the mystery behind the tragic killing of a top academic administrator.
