The United Nations Human Rights Office has confirmed the execution of three children by Rwanda-backed M23 rebels in Bukavu, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
According to UN spokesperson Ravina Shamdasani, the children were killed after wearing weapons and uniforms abandoned by the Congolese army.
Speaking at a press briefing in Geneva on Tuesday, Shamdasani expressed alarm over the incident and other human rights violations since M23 forces entered the city last week.
She also raised concerns for journalists, human rights defenders, and civil society members facing potential reprisals from the rebels.
