Former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, has been called upon to align with Southeast governors and other political stakeholders in supporting President Bola Tinubu, as the region witnesses a surge in infrastructural development under his administration.
Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, made the appeal during a feature interview for an upcoming State House documentary marking President Tinubu’s second anniversary in office. Umahi praised the President’s commitment to the Southeast, stating that massive road projects and improved security initiatives are transforming the region.
“All the governors in the Southeast, regardless of political party, are currently working closely with the President,” Umahi said. “We’re even planning a summit where all Southeast leaders will come together to formally endorse President Tinubu for the 2027 elections.”
Highlighting the region’s satisfaction with the federal government’s performance, Umahi said Tinubu embodies the fairness and equity the Southeast has long sought in national leadership.
“I call on my brother, His Excellency Peter Obi, to join us and work with Mr. President,” Umahi added. “He must be part of this summit where we will collectively endorse President Tinubu. I say it boldly: the Southeast is happy with the President.”
Under Tinubu’s leadership, the region has secured key ministerial appointments and is benefitting from major infrastructure projects, including the Port Harcourt–Enugu Expressway, Enugu–Abakaliki Road, Enugu–Onitsha Expressway, and the Onitsha–Owerri highway.
Umahi also noted that the federal government has intensified efforts to tackle insecurity in the region, particularly the threat posed by unknown gunmen, which escalated after the detention of Biafra agitator, Nnamdi Kanu. Security agencies, he said, have made significant strides in restoring peace across the Southeast.
The proposed summit is expected to mark a significant moment in Southeast politics as leaders consider a united stance ahead of the 2027 general elections.
