Minister of Works, David Umahi, has dismissed plans by opposition parties to form a coalition aimed at unseating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections, declaring such efforts as doomed to fail.
Speaking on Sunday during the flag-off of the reconstruction of the 282-kilometre Abuja-Kano expressway, Umahi praised the Tinubu administration’s reforms, citing recent international credit ratings as proof of Nigeria’s economic progress.
“Talk is cheap when you’re not the one in charge,” Umahi said at the event held in Jere, Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State. “I have yet to see any opposition provide viable alternatives. Instead, they engage in destructive criticism without direction.”
Highlighting the Fitch Ratings’ recent upgrade of Nigeria’s Long-Term Foreign-Currency Issuer Default Rating from ‘B-’ to ‘B’ with a stable outlook, Umahi said the development affirms that the administration’s policies are working. He also referenced positive assessments by the World Bank to support his claims.
“The worst is over. Nigeria is on the path to greatness,” Umahi declared. “God is with us, and He will take us to the promised land. Those in support, say Amen.”
Describing himself as both a “prophet and a priest,” Umahi boldly predicted an eight-year tenure for President Tinubu and also for Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State. “God has told me that President Tinubu will do eight years. Governor Uba Sani will do eight years,” he stated.
The N777 billion Abuja-Kano road project is expected to be completed within 14 months. Umahi assured Nigerians that the infrastructure being built under Tinubu’s leadership will be durable, with a lifespan of 50 to 100 years and little to no maintenance required.
To showcase the administration’s achievements, the minister also announced a nationwide “zone-to-zone” engagement beginning May 1, during which updates on federal road and bridge projects will be shared with the public.
Representing President Tinubu at the event, Governor Uba Sani lauded the project as a significant milestone that will boost security, create jobs, and enhance socio-economic development across northern Nigeria.
“This road is a lifeline connecting the North to the FCT. It has suffered years of neglect, but this administration is now delivering hope and development,” Sani said.
He also praised the efforts of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, whose implementation of the Kaduna Peace Model has drastically improved safety along the corridor, making it safer for motorists to travel at all hours.
The project flag-off marks a major step in the Tinubu administration’s ongoing efforts to modernise Nigeria’s critical infrastructure and drive inclusive growth across all regions.
