Ukraine Escalates Attacks on Russian Energy Facilities Despite U.S.-Brokered Truce – Moscow Alleges

Russia’s Ministry of Defence has accused Ukraine of ramping up attacks on its energy infrastructure, claiming 14 strikes were recorded in the past 24 hours alone, in violation of a U.S.-mediated ceasefire.

In a statement released on Telegram on Saturday, the ministry alleged that Ukraine had “multiplied” its use of drones and artillery shells to target energy facilities across several Russian regions, including Bryansk, Belgorod, Smolensk, Lipetsk, and Voronezh. The strikes were also said to have affected parts of the Ukrainian regions of Luhansk and Kherson currently under Russian control.

“The Ukrainian armed forces have intensified their unilateral attacks on civilian energy infrastructure, despite the ongoing moratorium,” the statement read.

In response, Ukraine’s military dismissed the accusations as disinformation, insisting in its own Telegram post that its forces are strictly targeting military objectives. Kyiv reiterated that it ceased all strikes on Russian energy facilities on March 18.

The allegations come amid a fragile truce between both countries following a 30-day moratorium brokered last month by the United States. The ceasefire agreement, aimed at halting mutual attacks on energy infrastructure, was part of a broader diplomatic initiative launched by U.S. President Donald Trump since his return to office in January.

However, both Moscow and Kyiv have repeatedly accused each other of breaching the terms of the deal, raising doubts over its effectiveness and longevity.
