The United States Mission in Nigeria has strongly condemned the killing of Reverend Father Sylvester Okechukwu, a Catholic priest in Kaduna State, describing the act as “brutal and senseless.”
Father Okechukwu, who served at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Tachiri, Kaura Local Government Area, was reportedly abducted from his residence on Tuesday night by suspected bandits. His lifeless body was discovered the following day.
In a statement, the U.S. Mission expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to the late priest’s family, congregation, and community.
“We are distressed by the brutal and senseless killing of Reverend Father Sylvester Okechukwu in Kaduna State, Nigeria. We strongly condemn this horrific act of violence,” the Mission stated.
Two days after the tragic incident, the U.S. Mission urged the Nigerian government to take swift action in identifying and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
