Trump Diagnosed with Chronic venous insufficiency

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, a common and non-life-threatening condition often associated with aging, the White House confirmed on Thursday.

According to a statement read by Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, Trump, 79, recently underwent a comprehensive vascular examination after experiencing mild swelling in his lower legs. The evaluation, conducted by the White House Medical Unit, included Doppler ultrasounds of both legs.

“The results confirmed chronic venous insufficiency, a benign and common condition, particularly in individuals over the age of 70,” noted Capt. Sean Barbabella, the president’s physician, in an official letter released by the White House.

Importantly, Barbabella clarified that there was no evidence of deep vein thrombosis (DVT), arterial disease, heart failure, or renal issues, and all laboratory tests returned within normal ranges. An echocardiogram also showed no signs of systemic illness.

Chronic venous insufficiency occurs when vein valves in the legs do not function properly, leading to poor blood flow and potential swelling, aching, or skin changes. While the condition is typically manageable, it may require long-term lifestyle changes or treatment if symptoms progress.

Medical experts weighed in on the diagnosis, describing it as expected for someone of Trump’s age, weight category, and activity level. Dr. Jeremy Faust of Harvard Medical School called the finding “not alarming” but emphasized the importance of ruling out more serious causes of leg swelling.

Cardiologist Dr. Bernard Ashby noted that while the diagnosis is generally benign, the underlying causes—such as potential heart or lung pressure issues—should be monitored closely.

The president is reportedly experiencing no discomfort and remains active. Leavitt also addressed public concerns over bruising spotted on the back of Trump’s hand, attributing it to frequent handshaking and routine aspirin use, as outlined in Barbabella’s report.

Despite recent speculation sparked by viral images taken at the FIFA World Cup final in New Jersey on July 13, Trump’s medical team concluded he remains in excellent health.

As Trump continues his campaign, he is set to become the oldest president in U.S. history if elected to a second term in 2025.
