On Tuesday, near the Sango roundabout, a laterite-transporting truck crushed a student from the Institute of Technology (IOT) at Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, killing him and seriously injuring two others. It was revealed to us that the three students were attending school lectures on a motorcycle at the time of the incident.
It was said that the truck driver, who was travelling from Sango to Maraba, lost control of the vehicle as they approached the roundabout, colliding with a car ahead of them, which then struck the motorcycle carrying the three students. The two who suffered serious injuries were sent to the hospital, but the dead apparently struck his forehead on the pavement of the road and passed away immediately.
The driver of the vehicle was arrested by the police at the ‘A’ Division, Challenge, Ilorin, and the truck was seized, according to Kwara State Police Command spokesperson ASP Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, who verified the occurrence.
She said, “It’s very unfortunate that a student lost his life in the incident, two others are currently receiving medical treatment in the hospital.
“Though an investigation has commenced, it’s annoying that the driver of the truck could not slow down to obey the big bump at the roundabout and lost control to claim a life.”
