The National and State Houses of Assembly Elections Petition Tribunal, sitting in Jos, the Plateau State capital, has annulled the elections of four Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Assembly members.
Justice Mohammed Tukur decided unanimously that the PDP candidates in the state were invalidly nominated due to the lack of a party organization in the state.
So far, the legislators affected by the decision include Peter Gyendeng of the Barkin-Ladi/Riyom Federal Constituency, Musa Bagos of the Jos South/Jos East Federal Constituency, Beni Lar of the Langtang North/Langtang South Federal Constituency, and Napoleon Bali of the Plateau South Senatorial District.
Meanwhile, the ruling benefits Fom Dalyop and Ajang Alfred Iliya of the Labour Party for the Barkin-Ladi/Riyom Federal Constituency and Jos South/Jos East Federal Constituency, respectively; Vincent Bulus Venman of the APC for the Langtang North/Langtang South Federal Constituency, and Simon Lalong for the Plateau South Senatorial Seat.
In response, the state PDP has voiced discontent with the panel’s decision, which nullifies a previous verdict from another panel sitting on the National Assembly Elections Petition Tribunal.
Nonetheless, counsel for the petitioners and respondents disagreed with the PDP’s position on the panel’s decision on the petitions.
