Tragedy Within: Governor Kefas Reveals Sister Was Killed by Police Escort, Not Bandits”

Governor Kefas Agbu of Taraba State has made a shocking revelation concerning the tragic death of his younger sister, Atsi Kefas, who was previously believed to have been killed by bandits along the Wukari–Chinkai Road in 2024.

Addressing journalists in Jalingo on Monday, Governor Kefas disclosed that contrary to widespread assumptions, Atsi was fatally shot at close range by a police escort assigned to his mother. The incident occurred while she was travelling with their mother from Jalingo to Abuja.

“Life is very precious to me. You can’t just end someone’s life and think God will be happy with you,” the governor stated emotionally. “My younger sister was shot and killed by a police escort who was in the same vehicle with her. Investigation revealed she was shot at close range.”

Governor Kefas also confirmed that medical personnel discovered pellets from the firearm in her body during surgery before she succumbed to the injuries.

The revelation contradicts earlier reports suggesting the convoy had come under a bandit attack. While the police escort responsible is still under investigation, the Taraba State Police Command has yet to release an official statement.

During the press briefing, Governor Kefas also addressed the recent mass killings in Karim-Lamido Local Government Area, where over 50 lives were lost in renewed violence. He called for a minute of silence in memory of both his sister and the Karim-Lamido victims.

Condemning the escalating violence in parts of the state, the governor urged residents to embrace peace and unity, stressing that no development can take place in an atmosphere of conflict. He further announced plans to establish a commission of inquiry to investigate the causes of the Karim-Lamido crisis and recommend sustainable solutions for peace.

As of the time of this report, investigations into Atsi Kefas’s death are ongoing.
