As President Bola Ahmed Tinubu arrives in Lafia, Nasarawa State, today, Wednesday, to commission major infrastructure projects executed by Governor Abdullahi Sule, the Tiv Youth Organisation (TYO) has made a heartfelt plea for his intervention in the ongoing wave of violence and displacement affecting Tiv communities in the state.
At a press conference held Tuesday in Lafia, TYO President, Comrade Isaiah Audu, decried the continued attacks on Tiv settlements, which have reportedly claimed lives, destroyed farmlands, and left thousands displaced across four local government areas.
According to Audu, the most recent incidents occurred on June 13 and 15, 2025, affecting communities in Dooga Ayande (Doma LGA), Antsa (Keana LGA), Tse Yange (Obi LGA), and Tse Akura in the Giza Area Administrative Council. Victims of the attacks included Mr. Terfa Tswabee, Mr. Sham Kyodo, Zaki Kwaghtagher Ordue, and Teryem Aondo Apav, who were reportedly killed during the violence.
“These attacks are unprovoked and targeted. Our people are being murdered in cold blood, and entire families have been forced to abandon their ancestral homes,” Audu said. “We are Nigerians too. We deserve the right to live in peace without fear.”
He urged President Tinubu to go beyond ceremonial duties and confront the security crisis head-on, by engaging with security agencies and the Nasarawa State government to end the bloodshed and bring justice to affected communities.
“Mr. President, we are calling on you today not just to commission projects, but to commission peace and justice for the Tiv people of Nasarawa State,” Audu declared.
The youth leader stressed that infrastructure development must go hand-in-hand with human security and justice, warning that continued silence would only embolden perpetrators of the violence.
As Tinubu’s visit draws national attention to Nasarawa, the TYO’s passionate appeal adds a deeper layer to the day’s events—reminding the nation that behind the ribbon-cutting ceremonies, real communities are calling for safety, recognition, and peace.
