In celebration of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second year in office, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) is set to launch a 19-day commissioning marathon of key infrastructure projects across Abuja, beginning June 10, 2025.
The plan was approved during the 14th Executive Committee meeting of the FCTA, chaired by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. According to a statement by Lere Olayinka, the Minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, the move underscores the administration’s drive toward accelerated urban development and improved public service delivery.
Among the headline projects slated for commissioning are the newly renovated Abuja International Conference Centre, modern bus terminals at Kugbo and Mabushi, and the long-awaited Apo-Wassa Road. Also on the list are the N16 Interchange, strategic roads linking Maitama through Katampe to Jahi, and the Inner Northern Expressway connecting Idu to Kubwa.
Additional key projects include:
CN8 Road from N5 (Obafemi Awolowo Way) to the Court of Appeal
N20 Flyover on Onnex-Kubwa Road
Life Camp Junction to Ring Road III corridor
Kabusa-Takushara and Kabusa-Ketti access roads
Giri District access road
15km stretch from A2 Junction (Abuja-Lokoja Road) to Pai in Kwali Area Council
Roads in Bwari Area Council, including Ushafa, War College, and Army Checkpoint routes
In a further boost to city infrastructure, the FCT Executive Committee also approved a contract to upgrade the streetlighting system on the 14-kilometer Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway (Ring Road I). Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Mr. Richard Dauda, explained that the new hybrid lighting system will replace outdated fixtures installed over 15 years ago, enhancing safety and visibility along the busy 10-lane corridor from Maitama to Gudu.
“The current lighting system has become ineffective, plunging major stretches of the road into darkness at night. The upgrade will significantly improve illumination, safety, and the overall driving experience,” Dauda noted.
The 19-day commissioning drive is part of the FCTA’s renewed commitment to robust infrastructure delivery, urban renewal, and enhanced quality of life for residents of the Federal Capital Territory.
