The founding National Secretary of the Alliance for Democracy (AD), Dr. Udenta Udenta, has criticized the wave of political endorsements recently received by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing it as a sign that the Federal Government has entered a premature election mode out of panic.
Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Thursday, Udenta said the current administration’s flurry of political maneuverings, including endorsements from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and even governors from opposition parties, reflects a deeper anxiety about the upcoming 2027 general elections.
“We have virtually two years or slightly less until the election; the regime panicked, that’s why it went into election mode two years ahead of time,” Udenta remarked.
He noted that he had earlier predicted President Tinubu would effectively govern for less than two years before full-blown political campaigning would begin, adding that recent developments have proven him right.
“The defections, endorsements, calibrations, and re-endorsements will continue in perpetuity until the election season is upon us,” he added.
President Tinubu has in recent weeks received public endorsements from political stakeholders within the APC as well as from some opposition figures, a move that continues to generate political debate across the country.
Udenta’s comments come amid growing speculation that early political positioning may dominate Nigeria’s political landscape far ahead of the 2027 polls.
