President commissions major projects in Katsina, pledges federal support amid security challenges

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged Nigeria’s 36 state governors to prioritize impactful governance over political popularity, stressing that performance remains the true benchmark of leadership.

Speaking during a two-day working visit to Katsina State, Tinubu charged governors to place the needs of the people at the center of their programmes and to disregard criticism from what he termed “armchair critics.”

“Your hard work and concrete achievements will answer any criticism. Ignore distractions — your results will speak for you,” the President declared while commissioning key infrastructure and agricultural projects.

Among the highlights of the visit was the inauguration of the 24-kilometre Eastern Bypass Road, which connects Dutsin-ma Road through Kano and Daura Roads to Yandaki in Kaita Local Government Area. Completed within 18 months, the road project was delivered under the administration of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda.

Tinubu also commissioned the Katsina Agricultural Mechanised Centre, designed to enhance agricultural productivity and promote modern farming techniques across the state.

Commending Governor Radda’s strides in sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, education, and infrastructure, Tinubu stated: “Significant progress has been made in less than two years. You are showing courage and commitment despite the security challenges in the state.”

Acknowledging the ongoing threats of terrorism and banditry in the region, the President reassured Katsina residents of the Federal Government’s continued support. “You will not walk alone. We have decided for peace and stability. The Federal Government will be with you,” he affirmed.

Tinubu emphasized that hunger and poverty remain critical threats to Nigeria’s stability, reiterating his administration’s focus on revitalizing the agricultural sector. “The economy is on the right path. We must liberate ourselves from hunger to enjoy peace and harmony. Agriculture is central to our progress,” he noted.

He further revealed plans to revive the Bank of Agriculture to improve access to funding for farmers at all levels. “Once resuscitated, the Bank of Agriculture will provide accessible financing to large, medium, and small-scale farmers,” he said.

The President called on other state governments to emulate Katsina’s approach to agricultural development, adding, “We must shift from oil dependence and embrace agriculture as our new frontier for prosperity.”

Tinubu concluded his visit with a heartfelt appreciation to the people of Katsina, describing the state as “home.” He thanked former governors Ibrahim Shema and Aminu Bello Masari, alongside other political leaders, for their warm reception.

“This is homecoming for me. Katsina is home — home to progress, development, and freedom for good,” he said.
