Tinubu Storms Benue in Response to Deadly Attacks

0

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday arrived in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, on a high-level mission to address the recent upsurge in violent attacks that have ravaged several communities across the state.

Touching down at the Tactical Air Command of the Nigerian Air Force Base at exactly 12:58 p.m., the President’s visit comes on the heels of yet another deadly assault that claimed multiple lives and left widespread devastation in its wake.

According to a statement from Presidential Spokesman Bayo Onanuga, the visit underscores Tinubu’s commitment to tackling the recurring violence and restoring peace to Benue and other conflict-prone areas of the country.

As part of his itinerary, the President is scheduled to meet with a wide range of stakeholders in a town hall-style dialogue. These include traditional rulers, religious and political leaders, youth groups, and community representatives—all with the aim of fostering unity, addressing grievances, and charting a path toward sustainable peace.

In advance of the President’s arrival, a high-powered federal delegation had already been dispatched to the state. The team included the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Inspector-General of Police, the National Security Adviser, heads of intelligence agencies, and chairmen of both the Senate and House Committees on Defence. Their mandate was to assess the security situation firsthand and lay the groundwork for the President’s intervention.

Notably, President Tinubu rescheduled a planned trip to Kaduna—originally set for Thursday—to commission completed state projects. That engagement has now been postponed to allow the President to fully concentrate on the Benue crisis.

Tinubu had earlier condemned the renewed wave of violence in the state, urging all parties to embrace peace, love, and mutual understanding. He also extended heartfelt condolences to families affected by the attacks and reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering resolve to restore law, order, and stability throughout Nigeria.
