President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially renamed the University of Maiduguri as Muhammadu Buhari University, in honour of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The announcement was made during a Federal Executive Council (FEC) session held in tribute to Buhari, who passed away recently in London at the age of 82.
Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga disclosed the development in a brief statement on Thursday via his official X handle (formerly Twitter).
“President Tinubu renames University of Maiduguri as MUHAMMADU Buhari University. President Tinubu announced the honour at the session of tributes of the Federal Executive Council to his late predecessor,” the post read.
The renaming serves as a symbolic gesture recognising the legacy of the late statesman, who served as Nigeria’s president from 2015 to 2023.
