President Bola Tinubu has directed the release of funds for the settlement of pension arrears, salary increases, and other entitlements owed to retired military personnel. The announcement followed two days of peaceful protests by military veterans at the Federal Ministry of Finance in Abuja.

Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammed Matawalle, confirmed the development, expressing gratitude to the President for his timely intervention. In a statement issued by the Director of Press and Public Relations at the Ministry of Defence, Mr. Henshaw Ogubike, it was disclosed that payment alerts for the three-month salary increase have already been received by military personnel.

He also acknowledged the role of the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, in ensuring the successful disbursement of the funds.

The Minister urged the military to remain steadfast in their duties, assuring them of the government’s dedication to boosting morale and providing the necessary support to combat insecurity. He reaffirmed the administration’s resolve to strengthen the readiness and resilience of the Armed Forces in addressing challenges of insurgency, terrorism, and other criminal activities.

Matawalle concluded by reiterating President Tinubu’s steadfast commitment to enhancing the welfare and operational capacity of the nation’s military forces.
