President Bola Tinubu has commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for his remarkable efforts in infrastructural transformation, expressing confidence that such achievements could bolster the chances of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the FCT during the 2027 elections.
Tinubu, who belongs to the ruling APC, acknowledged Wike’s contributions despite his official affiliation with the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The President made these remarks during a traditional Sallah homage at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, where Wike led a delegation of prominent FCT residents to mark the end of Ramadan fasting and the Eid-el-Fitr holiday.
Describing Wike as “Mr. Infrastructure,” President Tinubu praised the minister for his progressive initiatives that have positively impacted the lives of Abuja residents. Tinubu also expressed his appreciation for the diversity of the delegation, noting the unity and cooperation displayed.
“When we started, he came up with a lot of good ideas to liberate the bureaucracy and bring forward-looking, progressive thinking to the administration,” Tinubu stated. He emphasized that Wike’s strategies have created opportunities for many residents while addressing bureaucratic challenges and optimizing resources.
The President also lauded Wike’s efforts in reviving abandoned projects, rehabilitating health centers, upgrading healthcare facilities, and furnishing educational institutions. “Today, we are living in peace, security is improving, and hunger is coming down. Food prices are lowering, and our people can go to the market and do business,” Tinubu remarked.
Reflecting on Wike’s ability to navigate the complexities of working in the northern part of the country despite being from the South, Tinubu noted that it serves as a testament to Nigeria’s diversity and the importance of national unity.
“It’s about all of us and the diversity of Nigeria being proved by Nyesom Wike. Strengthen that diversity to develop prosperity, seeing that we are all members of one family living together,” Tinubu said, emphasizing the need for collaboration and mutual respect.
Speaking to State House correspondents after the visit, Wike expressed his delight at being acknowledged by the President. He described Tinubu’s recognition as a morale boost, assuring that he and his team would continue to deliver projects that positively impact the lives of Abuja residents.
“If your boss, in public, says you are doing well, that, of course, is an encouragement to continue the good work. We will not disappoint him,” Wike affirmed.
With infrastructural development at the forefront of his agenda, Wike reiterated his commitment to making Abuja a model of progress and unity under the current administration.
